- Having lived and worked in several countries has taught me that miscommunications often arise not only because of a language barrier, but because different cultures have unique values, assumptions and ways of interpreting behaviour.
- My multicultural experience and learning to communicate in several languages have instilled in me a life-long passion and interest in the way we communicate cross-culturally, with people whose first language and first culture are different from our own.
- This is why I enjoy teaching English as a second language; the skill needed to explain, clarify and communicate effectively with students whose English might be non-existent and who come from a wide spectrum of cultural backgrounds, is a challenge I enjoy!
- My master’s research project looked at the interaction between a primary school and its multicultural parent community. Interviewing both parents and school staff has deepened my understanding of the challenges faced and felt by both ‘sides’. And it is thanks to this research, my personal journey, and teaching, that I am keen and able to offer the following services.
